Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI)
The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI),established in 1970 by the Ethiopian Government in collaboration with Save the Children Organizations of Norway and Sweden and the University of Bergen, is named after Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, the Norwegian physician who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae).Originally focused on leprosy research, AHRI now conducts research on a wide range of diseases, including tuberculosis, malaria, antimicrobial resistance, HIV, various cancers, and other non-communicable diseases. The institute was restructured to also include traditional and modern medicine research and pharmaceutical industry development. AHRI addresses emerging and re-emerging diseases through health research and innovation, focusing on both communicable and non-communicable diseases. The MNTD division is one of the divisions of AHRI established with the objective of strengthening research, capacity building and networking in Malaria and Neglected Tropical diseases research. The focus of the directorate is to conduct quality basic biomedical, clinical and operational research for informed decision making and contribute to the global scientific knowledge.
University of California San Francisco, Department of Infectious Disease
The Division of Infectious Diseases is dedicated to the highest standards of clinical care, teaching, and research to develop new approaches for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infectious diseases. Its mission is to uphold UCSF’s excellence by delivering outstanding patient care, pioneering cutting-edge research, and training future leaders in Infectious Disease through its ACGME-certified fellowship program.

London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Department of Infectious Biology
The Department of Infection Biology combines laboratory and informatics sciences to study infectious disease biology, pathogenesis, and immunity. Using advanced technologies in molecular genetics, glycoengineering, immunology, genomics, and imaging, it aims to discover new interventions, drugs, and vaccines for global health issues.
The department conducts research on various pathogens, including bacteria like Shigella and Mycobacterium, parasites like Plasmodium and Trypanosoma, and viruses like SARS-CoV-2, dengue, and Zika, within regulated containment levels. Its goals are to understand infection mechanisms, genetic diversity, and immune responses, and to develop diagnostic tests, surveillance systems, and vaccine candidates. Collaborations with global partners advance knowledge and address major health challenges.
National Malaria Elimination Program (NMEP), Etiopia
Malaria and other vector-borne diseases prevention and control program is fully integrated at all levels of the health system throughout the country. The role of MOVBD is to develop or update and disseminate policy and strategies. The MOVBD produces and disseminates malaria related national guidelines, then monitors and evaluates the implementation and impact of interventions. Moreover, the MOVBD is involved in building the capacity of programme managers at regional, zonal and district levels. MOVBD also provides technical guidance to all stakeholders and implementing partners. To implement malaria related activities, MOVBD works in collaboration with other key units within FMOH. The MOVBD is one of the disease focus units in the Disease Prevention and Control Lead Executive Office, thereby providing horizontal integration throughout the system. To extend its reach, the programme has collaborative relationships with various agencies such as research institutes, procurement, and supply management agency, EPHI and regulatory bodies, as well as other units in the Ministry. In addition, there are malaria units, teams or focal persons at regional and district levels, which are charged with handle malaria related matters in their respective jurisdictions and implement strategies and policy guidelines developed by MOVBD.
Bioscience Research Institute
Bioscience Research Institute, a non profit research and training institute hosted by Ibn Sina University in Khartoum, Sudan, envisions becoming a leader in One Health research. Its mission is to provide a platform for evidence based research on human, animal, plant health, and the environment; train and foster future research leaders; and create a network of productive collaborations with national and international partners and stakeholders.

National Malaria Control Progrm,Sudan Research Institute
The National Malaria Control Program is the designated body in Sudan’s Federal Ministry of Health in charge of providing quality malaria control services, guided by the national malaria strategic plan (2021-2026), which aims to reduce malaria mortality and morbidity across the country.
The program develops control strategies based on the best available national evidence while remaining in alignment with the WHO’s Global technical strategy for malaria (2016-2030). The program also ensures that the necessary enabling policies for the strategy’s implementation are in place, and maintains regular oversight of malaria trends, threats and control activities at the subnational levels.
